One solid way of ensuring you always stay above your office colleagues > Patent & Business Research

If you are into literature research, you probably already know the importance of language specific searches.

Be it patent research, or secondary research, or even primary research for that matter, everyone has from time to time employed some language capabilities.

Using google translate or some other tools, and trust me there are many, to manually translate strings, may work to an extent in patent and web searches; However, the biggest plus point always is having people having the capability to translate.

This has the biggest use in primary research, where not knowing the language can cost you the interpreter/translator cost, which can add up to a lot, especially in volume consultations.

So where is the opportunity? Learn a new language! (here, TED blog can help you)

This will always keep you over your other colleagues and will always ensure you grow. The best peripheral skill set a researcher can have is to transcend the barriers of language and expand their understanding.

And, no, it doesn't have to cost you much. Free tools like Duolingo and Memrise can help you get started.

Go on, the clock is ticking!
